yoga & pilates jobs at camp

are you?

Flexible, Calm, Confident, Patient, Focused

bonus qualifications:

We're flexible on qualifications. Excuse the pun, but the fact remains - you'll be teaching kids at camp, so you won't need to have any certifications to nail down this role. If you know most of the poses, you'll be able to teach yoga and pilates at camp.

why should I teach yoga or pilates at summer camp?

Channel your inner zen this summer as a yoga or pilates instructor. As well as improving your own health and wellbeing, you can share your knowledge with campers to help them grow into well-rounded, healthy people.

Being in the yoga or pilates studio is also a welcome contrast from the typical crazy environment at camp - both staff and campers can use this time to calm down and reflect on the day.

what does a yoga & pilates instructor do at summer camp?

Working in the yoga / pilates studio, you’ll spend 5 or 6 sessions a day helping campers relax and work on their strength and flexibility. The majority of campers won’t have any past experience with yoga or pilates, so you’ll be the one introducing them to this positive lifestyle change.

You’ll also have time yourself to practice yoga and pilates, as a well-deserved break from the hectic schedule at camp. Whatever your experience, you’ll come back from camp a better (and more zen!) version of yourself.

Will I be trained?

When you arrive at camp, you will spend around a week getting trained in your activity, to make sure you give the best experience to campers, whilst at the same time ensuring their safety. Don’t worry if you don’t have any relevant qualifications, all we’re asking for is that you’re willing to get stuck in!

Why should I be an activity specialist instead of a general counsellor?

Most importantly, being an activity specialist gives you the opportunity to develop your skills in an area that you are passionate about, getting experience that’s not available anywhere else. Whilst you’ll be teaching your activity 5 or 6 periods a day, you’ll generally have more time off, with many specialists staying overnight with other specialists rather than campers. You’ll also get to know the whole camp, spending your days seeing different groups of campers into the activity and seeing them grow both in the skill and as people.

How many children should I expect to teach?

Campers come down to sessions in divisions (age groups). These can vary in skill level, but usually are made up of 10-30 campers. You’ll then be paired with an individual camper or a group, and don’t worry - you’ll be supported by your fellow specialists and counsellors.
